Quote of the day

"We are shut up in schools and college recitation rooms for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bellyful of words and do not know a thing. "

Hutcherson's Watchmen on the Walls named as a Hate Group

Active U.S. Hate Groups

The Southern Poverty Law Center counted 888 active hate groups in the United States in 2007. Only organizations and their chapters known to be active during 2007 are included.

All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics.

This list was compiled using hate group publications and websites, citizen and law enforcement reports, field sources and news reports.

Hate group activities can include criminal acts, marches, rallies, speeches, meetings, leafleting or publishing. Websites appearing to be merely the work of a single individual, rather than the publication of a group, are not included in this list. Listing here does not imply a group advocates or engages in violence or other criminal activity.

The Southern Law Poverty Center has added Ken Hutcherson's Watchmen on The Walls cult to their list of "Hate Groups"

That is quite a distinguished honor for Hutch! He shares his spotlight with the likes of the Aryan Nation, the Ku Klux Klan, skinheads and of course the Neo-Nazi's

CoDE should be proud to have such a high profile member on it's roster.

Here is the list of identified Hate Groups in Washington State...Beware of these nuts!

United Realms of America Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
St. Michael's Parish/Mount St. Michael

If CoDE had any integrity, they would ask Mr. Hutcherson to leave their coalition.

But they won't, they need like minded folks like Hutch to support their hate.

Oh brother!

Wow, it it just me, or does this particular blog have a serious fetish for Ken Hutcherson?

Perhaps it's owner can rename it to something more appropriate (perhaps IHateKen.org or something).

I haven't seen much (aside from the bond post) that is really even relevant to most parents of Mt. Si High parents.

"I want the teachers Kit McCormick and George Potratz fired and I will not stop until they are gone. Do you wish to be added to that list? I want the day of silence silenced and it will not happen during school time anymore."

-Ken Hutcherson

I'm sorry, I thought a hate monger attacking our teachers and kids was actually relevant to parents of Mount Si students.

He is very vocal, he is very public, and he he very WRONG.

What are you afraid of?

I don't hate Ken Hutcherson. I hate his anti-gay bigotry, his tendency to intimate violence and associate with violent anti-gay entremists. I hate his attempts to make it legal to discriminate against me becuase I do not follow his religous dogma on sexuality. But I don't hate Hutcherson.

The hate mongering that emanates from this blog sure seems to be directed at a specific individual that is not a Mt. Si High teacher.

We don't hate Hutch.

Hate leads to the dark side.

Hutch embraces hate like a mother embraces her child.

He never left his early path of hate, he simply cloaked his hate with convenient scripture.

How is exposing Hutcherson's antics hate mongering?

The attention on Hutcherson is still needed because there are still teachers being punished for standing up against his invitation to the school.

Hutcherson has been apologized to by the school... the teachers and the students haven't. Until the district and the administration admits that he was the wrong choice and "remove" all letters of reprimand from the teacher's files, then Hutcherson needs to be shown for what he is--a messenger of hate.

Until that happens and Principal Taylor, Assistant Principal Castle, and Charlie Kinnune own up for what they are responsible for, then this blog must continue to focus its attention on making sure everyone is aware of the facts about Hutcherson.

...just because the assembly was a few months ago, does not mean this problem has gone away. Hutcherson is clearly staying in the fight, why should this blog back down?

This blog should not 'back down'. It should however avoid emanating that which it objects to: vitriolic name calling and nastiness in discourse. The broader goal is healing and helping the school community move forward toward the creation of a respectful school community (I reject the oft repeated notion that students are not in a broad sense 'safe', emotional safety could be strengthened). Respect and tolerance will win the day over unreasoned rants, ridiculous accusations and demands that threaten people's livelihoods. So thanks for pointing out a reasonable set of expectations: that the letters of reprimand be taken back, now focus on how best to get there, stay on point and remember there are other important things to hope for and accomplish as well.

Respectfully,

Mark Joselyn

There are so many important issues at stake in this whole affair, but, as so often happens, the wrong people are being punished. It's so amazing to watch this happen over and over in institutions, small and large, whose administrators' poor judgment is matched only by their genius at scapegoating others for their mistakes.

The original mistake -- and it's a doozy! -- was that the Mount Si administration approved Ken Hutcherson, whose organization has now been put by the SPLC on a list of hate groups, to speak at -- of all things -- an MLK celebration. If the consequences weren't so tragic, this would be worthy of a Saturday Night Live skit.

But the consequences *are* tragic -- for the teachers who had the bravery to protest and for the young people who have seen their public school put its imprimatur on Ken Hutcherson's brand of hate.
Now these teachers' careers are being threatened.

What a world we live in! If I were a lawyer, I'd be offering my services pro bono to these teachers, who I hope will sue.

For the record, the Southern Poverty Law Center is a group of radical homosexual and Jewish activists who publish material that is poorly researched and often false.

No credence should be given them.

"Jewish activists"? And that's significant ... how? Looks as if there's an anti-Semitic agenda here, too. I don't know why I should be surprised.

Homosexuality and Jewishness -- and there's nothing wrong with either -- have long been associated with each other as a way of disparaging both. The Nazis were very big on this, of course. Scary to think people with such views live here, too. And very sad.

For Bill White:

Care to expand on how the SPLC's research is flawed? Do you have any specifics?

If not, your assertion should be fully discounted. It's just an ignorant taunt aimed at empowering stupidity and ignorance.

For me, I hold the SPLC's long respected record in high regard.

For you, we have to be on guard against those homo-sexuals and jews.

LOL

I thought this blog's mission was "An open forum for parents and students of Mt Si high school to discuss academic issues."

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick to death of hearing about Hutcherson.

Then why waste your time here?

btw: the Southern Poverty Law Center has an award winning, highly respected project called "Teaching Tolerance". It provides resources for teachers and schools to promote "ABC's" or Anti-Bias Classrooms. I am happy to say that many of their materials and activities have made a positive impact in our SVSD schools.

Google the Southern Poverty Law Center and see for yourself what a courageous and wonderful group this is. There is a link to the Teaching Tolerance project.

Can we all agree to promote education (doesn't that sound more positive than "defend education"??) that encourages tolerance and compassion as a springboard to real learning?

When we come together with integrity and the open-minded curiosity that nurtures real learning, exciting things happen, including good education that is its own best defense.

What can you do to support this kind of education?

Watchmen on the Walls has been associated with extreme violence, actually.
