Quote of the day

"We are shut up in schools and college recitation rooms for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bellyful of words and do not know a thing. "

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Look who's preaching hate on Mothers Day?

Ken Hutcherson with Scott Lively who claims that the Nazi Party, World War II and the Holocaust were the products of a vast gay conspiracy, and Latvian megachurch pastor Alexey Ledyaev who claims that “Homosexuality is a … dangerous and contagious disease."

Sunday, 11 May 2008

Please keep praying for a great turnout for this Sunday's services for two reasons:

1.) It's Mother's Day! We want to honor all of our mothers.

2.) This Sunday will be the first of a two part series on why homosexuality is still a sin.Pray that many lives will be changed.

Pastor Hutch

"[Slavery] was established by decree of Almighty God...it is sanctioned in the Bible, in both Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation...it has existed in all ages, has been found among the people of the highest civilization, and in nations of the highest proficiency in the arts."
-Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America

"The doom of Ham has been branded on the form and features of his African descendants. The hand of fate has united his color and destiny. Man cannot separate what God hath joined."
-United States Senator James Henry Hammond.

"There is not one verse in the Bible inhibiting slavery, but many regulating it. It is not then, we conclude, immoral."
-Rev. Alexander Campbell

"The right of holding slaves is clearly established in the Holy Scriptures, both by precept and example."
-Rev. R. Furman, D.D., Baptist, of South Carolina

Leviticus 25:44-46:
"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

1 Timothy 6:1-3
"Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;"

The quotation by Jefferson Davis, listed above, reflected the beliefs of many Americans in the 19th century. Slavery was seen as having been "sanctioned in the Bible." They argued that:

-Biblical passages recognized, controlled, and regulated the practice.

-The Bible permitted owners to beat their slaves severely, even to the point of killing them. However, as long as the slave lingered longer than 24 hours before dying of the abuse, the owner was not regarded as having committed a crime, because after all -- the slave was his property.

-Paul had every opportunity to write in one of his Epistles that human slavery -- the owning of one person as a piece of property by another -- is profoundly evil. His letter to Philemon would have been an ideal opportunity to vilify slavery. But he wrote not one word of criticism.

-Jesus could have condemned the practice. He might have done so. But there is no record of him having said anything negative about the institution.

Hutch, using the bible to justify evil today is no different than it was yesterday!

The same books of the Bible you justify your disgust of homosexuals with are the same books that kept your ancestors enslaved! Why not embrace it all brother?

Why must you preach evil, and on Mothers day no less?

You should be ashamed!

May God have mercy on your dark and twisted soul.

These thoughts are for you Hutch...

"Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of truth and knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods."
-Albert Einstein

"You know that you have created God in your image when God hates the same people that you do."
-Fr. John Weston

I just want to Thank all of the Mothers who support GSA and all of the students at MSHS. We should take time to thank our Moms, who stand beside us, in front and behind when we need them too. For the Moms who stood in front of the school on 4/25 Thanks.... For all Moms that have had to deal with their children being harass at school, thanks for being there for them...
I am glad I have a Mom stood up for me.

Maybe that was two mommies. Heck, why stop there go for three or four mommies.

well my friend - and this is not meant to be sarcastic - it does take a village to raise a child.

if more folks too part in the nurturing of our children, we wouldn't have so many problems.

There is no direct moral or logical connection between believing homosexuality is immoral and gay-bashing. There is none. It does not follow that if you think homosexuality is wrong or evil, you are encouraging others to torment homosexuals. KABC talk show host Al Rantel--himself a homosexual--put it this way: This kind of thinking would make Alcoholics Anonymous responsible every time a drunk gets beat up in an alley.

Anonymous,

AA doesn't tell people that alcoholics are evil people seeking to destroy the very fabric of society. AA doesn't falsely claim that alcoholics are seeking to recruit and corrupt innocent children. In short AA doesn't seek to demonize and dehumanize alcoholics the way Christianists demonize and dehumanize homosexuals. So your analogy is as false as the "Love the sinner, hate the sin" fig leaf that Christianists hide their anti-gay bigotry behind. As if those six words have more affect on the actions of their flock than the countless words used to make them believe that they are "under attack" from homosexuals, who are merely seeking equal protection, treatment and rights.

It wasn't my analogy, READ where it came from.

jc, pretty strong words to lump all Christians together. I would like more of an explaination as to how someone can't "love the sinner and hate the sin". Did not Jesus shed his blood because of his love for sinners (which includes all of us) and his hatred of the sin? Is not a performance review at work a reflection of your actions at work and not you as a person? Is not a letter of reprimand against an action of the individual but not the individual?

Since you lack the courage to stand behind your posts, I'm not surprized at your refusal to defend an analogy you obviously thought was apt, else you wouldn't have posted it.

As for lumping, if you actually read what I wrote, I do no lumping whatsoever. I don't even refer to Christians, but to Christianists such as Hutcherson.

As for the hollowness of the "love the sinner, hate the sin" trope, when one looks at the evidence, it is clear that Christianists have a nasty habit of inflicting physical harm on the sinner, not the sin. Also, both of your analogies or innappriate. A performance review or letter of reprimand are both conducted by a supervisor on a subordinate. This may come as shock to those deep into hard-core Christianist beliefs, but you are not the supervisor of your fellow man, and as much as you may wish to believe so, we are not subordinate to your religous beliefs. The fact that you would choose such analogies (a parent reprimanding a child is another Christianist favorite) does reveal your arrogance.
